Bar Trash: FLESH FOR FRANKENSTEIN 3D (1973)

Running time: 145 mins

"BRINGS THE HORROR OFF THE SCREEN... AND INTO YOUR LAP!”

Cult film night BAR TRASH continues with BANNED, an uncensored season of the Video Nasties.

Paul Morrissey’s FLESH FOR FRANKENSTEIN 3D aka Andy Warhol’s Frankenstein (1973) is a “delectably gory and cynical social satire” (Vinegar Syndrome) that was loathed by critics on its original release under various titles and running times. Contemporary reviews dismissed it as "a coy binge in degradation" (Nora Sayre, NY Times) and "a truly gross experience" (Craig Butler, AllMovie), but in 2012 the film ended up 98th on Time Out's top 100 horror films of all time, voted for by industry professionals.

“I’m stupidly excited to present our first ever 3D screening at BAR TRASH, and FLESH FOR FRANKENSTEIN 3D is exactly the kind of exercise in bad taste that should bring the bar to life! What’s more, if this works, we’ll bring more 3D films to Bar Paragon, including the equally hysterical BLOOD FOR DRACULA (1974) made by the same team with an even more unhinged Udo Kier and the return of everybody's favourite arthouse himbo, Joe Dallesandro.” TOKEN HOMO

FLESH FOR FRANKENSTEIN 3D was originally passed with cuts by the BBFC to achieve an X certificate for cinema release in 1975 and an 18 certificate in 1982. Released on uncertified and uncut VHS in 1981/2, the film was seized and prosecuted for obscenity during the Video Nasties furore. A home video re-release was passed with cuts to achieve an 18 certificate in 1996. The film was passed uncut in 2006. A fully restored version was passed uncut in 2023.

Polite notice: FLESH FOR FRANKENSTEIN “contains strong bloody violence, sexual threat and sexual violence, strong sex and nudity, and strong language ('f**k')" (BBFC). We are showing FLESH FOR FRANKENSTEIN 3D without subtitles from the best available digital source. The anaglyph 3D transfer was created by the 3-D Film Archive and requires the provided red/cyan 3D viewers to create the 3D effect.
