Synopsis

Reel Good Film Club in collaboration with Genesis' #WomenInFilm2018 present a screening of Kasi Lemmons' Eve's Bayou with an extended introduction by Kelli Weston.

Over the course of a long, hot Louisiana summer, a 10-year-old black girl, Eve Batiste, discovers that her family's affluent existence is merely a facade. The philandering of her suave doctor father, Louis, creates a rift, throwing Eve's mother, Roz, and teenage sister, Cisely, into emotional turmoil. Eve, though, manages to find some solace with her quirky psychic aunt, Mozelle.

Kelli Weston is a film critic for publications including Sight & Sound, Little White Lies and The Skinny. She has a masters in Film Studies from Birkbeck University, where she completed a thesis on The Southern Gothic in film.

Reel Good Film Club is a London-based film club dedicated to highlighting diversity in film through inclusive and accessible screening, panels and events.
