Synopsis

Our Music & Movies nights continue with this live performance from Laura Tenschert and Lorraine Wood  followed by a screening of Blue Velvet.

College student Jeffrey Beaumont (Kyle MacLachlan) returns home after his father has a stroke. When he discovers a severed ear in an abandoned field, Beaumont teams up with detective's daughter Sandy Williams (Laura Dern) to solve the mystery. They believe beautiful lounge singer Dorothy Vallens (Isabella Rossellini) may be connected with the case, and Beaumont finds himself becoming drawn into her dark, twisted world, where he encounters sexually depraved psychopath Frank Booth (Dennis Hopper).

German-born singer-songwriter Laura Tenschert grew up in Switzerland and is currently based in London. In performance, what strikes the audience first is Laura’s crystalline voice, shifting between tones of defiance and notes of vulnerable intimacy. Her songs may unwind like heirloom folk tunes, but a closer listen reveals a depth matched by few contemporary songwriters, using equal parts wit and sadness to capture the gleaming facets of what it means to live and love in the twenty-first century.

Lorraine Wood hails from the Hackney of the 1970s. Her stripped-bare style is both fragile and forceful. She performs infrequently. She has been described by folk broadcaster Bob Meyer, as "maybe the best unrecorded / undiscovered female folk roots singer songwriter in the UK at the moment".
