Synopsis

As a finale to Scalarama 2018 in London, Genesis is proud to present a weekend of non-stop exploding cinema. 9 fantastic films – many of which may be new to you – in the tradition of midnight movies and the Scala’s legendary marathons, selected for you by the films fans’ film fans: Kim Newman, Edgar Wright and Julia Marchese. There’ll be a Q+A on Friday with Kim and our special guest curator from the USA, Julia.

Daughters Of Darkness will be introduced by Kim Newman

Kim:

“In a deserted Ostend hotel, a honeymooning couple fall under the spell of a marcel-waved vampire in astonishing Dietrich dresses. Despite moments of unconventional sex and violence, this is a comedy of undead manners, with director Harry Kümel surrounding the extraordinary Delphine Seyrig with oodles of bizarre atmosphere. Far better than the films it influenced (‘The Hunger’, for instance), this is an underground classic of the horror cinema.”

Newlyweds stop at a posh French hotel on their way to England. They meet a beautiful red-lipped woman whom the hotel owner swears had been there 40 years ago, even though she hasn't aged. She introduces herself as Countess of Bathory and folks begin to wonder.

Tickets are £50 for a weekend pass, £24 for the Saturday ‘Edgar Wright’s stuff’ special, or £10 / £7.50 [students / concessions] for each film.
