Synopsis

As a finale to Scalarama 2018 in London, Genesis is proud to present a weekend of non-stop exploding cinema. 9 fantastic films – many of which may be new to you – in the tradition of midnight movies and the Scala’s legendary marathons, selected for you by the films fans’ film fans: Kim Newman, Edgar Wright and Julia Marchese. There’ll be a Q+A on Friday with Kim and our special guest curator from the USA, Julia.

The In-Crowd will be introduced by Julia Marchese

Julia:

''This flick is like the under seen sister film to Hairspray - it's got another great alliterative after school dance program (The Perry Parker Show!) but instead of Ricki Lake, we get Donovan Leitch who sneaks his way onto the show to fit in with the in crowd - and shakes his moneymaker like nobodies business! I'll never understand why he wasn't the biggest star of the 80's! (He is in my heart.)''

n 1965 Philadelphia, Del is enthralled by a television dance show and decides to try to sneak onto the set and steal a little air time. The show's producer and host, Perry Parker spots Del and, instead of ejecting him, pairs him with Vicky, the most popular girl dancer. The fan response is overwhelming, and Perry decides to turn Del into a star, but Del finds fame is not all he had imagined, and he misses his old friends and lifestyle.

Tickets are £50 for a weekend pass, £24 for the Saturday ‘Edgar Wright’s stuff’ special, or £10 / £7.50 [students / concessions] for each film.
