Synopsis

Fringe! Film Festival presents Soda Jerk's Terror Nullius.

A disruptive and queer revenge fable supercut, decolonising and queering the narratives that have shaped Australian pop culture. Lip-glossed, leather-babe Olivia Newton-John in Grease and bunny-hopping BMX Bandit Nicole Kidman reconfigure the wastelands of Mad Max as today's refugee detention sites. Flesh-eating sheep are anti-colonial anarchists and a feminist motorcycle gang is rampages righteously to unwrite Down Under’s history. Terror Nullius critiques the paradox of a nation where idyllic beaches host race riots, governments poll love-rights and the perils of hyper-masculinity are overshadowed only by the enduring horror of Australia’s colonising myth of terra nullius. Come prepared for your jaw to drop and to never watch Mad Max the same way again.
