Synopsis

Our monthly Cult Classic Collective event with Nick Walker of Rochester Kino returns with Harmony Korine's Dogme95 film, Julien Donkey-Boy. The screening will be introduced by Nick and will be followed by a salon discussion upstairs at the bar where you will have a chance to discuss this great film with fellow fans and first-time viewers!

A portrait of the effects of schizophrenia on family life is the central focus in this film about a schizophrenic boy named Julien (Ewen Bremner - "Fool's Gold," "Trainspotting") who works in a school for the blind. Julien lives at home with his pregnant sister Pearl (Academy Award and Golden Globe-nominee Chloë Sevigny - "Boys Don't Cry," "Zodiac"), his brother Chris, who wrestles in his spare time; and their violent father (Werner Herzog - award winning filmmaker), who slaps his children around, hoses them down with water, and offers to pay Chris ten dollars to dress up in his late mother's clothes and dance. Eventually Julien escapes from his home and interacts with people on the street.
