The Dancing Hawk (1978, Grzegorz Królikiewicz) UK Theatrical Premiere - TFFF

Running time: 98 mins

A peasant’s son rises through the ranks of post-war Polish society like none of his ancestors ever could. Moving to the city, he becomes part of a new socialist order. But in leaving his rural roots behind, does he also abandon his soul? Taking inspiration from Orson Welles’ monumental saga Citizen Kane, Grzegorz Królikiewicz crafts a viscerally affecting portrait of a changing country through the fate of a man ruined by ambition.

Strikingly original compositions from cinematographer Zbigniew Rybczynski and absorbing sound design capture the psychic toll of capitalism and urbanization in Filmoteka Narodowa’s new restoration.

This screening will be preceded by an intro.

Hi, Mom! (1970, Brian De Palma) - TFFF

Running time: 87 mins

Aspiring adult film-maker Jon Rubin returns from a tour of Vietnam and, armed with his film camera, attempts to find meaning and inspiration in the counter-culture of New York in 1970. Rubin graduates from surreptitiously filming his neighbours, to joining a militant Black experimental theatre group, before flirting with full-scale domestic terrorism, in this hilariously madcap satire that has still retained its outrageous power to shock, fifty years after initially stunning American audiences.

Radiance Films are proud to present a vital work of the early New Hollywood, and a key work in the career of master director Brian De Palma in a new restoration from the original camera negative.

This screening will be preceded by an intro.
