In THE RETURN OF CAPTAIN INVINCIBLE (1982), the iconic actor lends his unmistakable basso profundo voice to a song composed by ROCKY HORROR co-creators Richard O’Brien and Richard Hartley for his super villain, Mr. Midnight.

From a time when Nazis were *always* the bad guys, the NY Times called THE RETURN OF CAPTAIN INVINCIBLE “One of the best superhero movies ever made (really)”. A box office flop on its original release, affection has grown for this “rambunctiously entertaining” (The Guardian) tale of a washed-up, alcoholic superhero, played brilliantly by Oscar-winner Alan Arkin (LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE) alongside Kate Fitzpatrick (THE REMOVALISTS) as Patty Patria, an Australian police officer who helps Invincible get back to his former glory.

A special gala screening of 'We’ll Go Down in History' at Genesis Cinema to mark Trans Day of Visibility, featuring a Q&A and a programme of from the LGBTQ+ community.

'We’ll Go Down in History' tells the story of TRUK United, a grassroots, proudly trans football club. Filmed over two years, this short documentary captures the team’s highs and lows on and off the pitch as they create a safe haven for their community in the face of rising transphobia.

The evening will feature a programme of short films, including a special preview of ‘Solers United, direct from it’s premiere at BFI Flare. This will be followed by 'We’ll Go Down in History' and a Q&A with the team.

The Genesis Slam crew are back with our next Genesis Poetry Workshop, and this time we’re getting formal with sonnets!

In this workshop we’ll be exploring the history of the sonnet form: where it started, why it’s stuck around and what a sonnet looks like today (hint: it still basically has 14 lines). From Italian “little songs” to modern day American sonnets, poets have always been fascinated by the 14-line form – this is your chance to learn what the fuss is about and try your hand writing at your own.

So if you want to tell your octave from your sestet, your Shakespearean from your Spenserian, this is the workshop for you!

This workshop will be led by Genesis Slam’s own Laurie Eaves. Laurie is a writer and editor who hosts Genesis Slam, Homebrew Poetry, the Vogon Slam and the Dead Darlings spoken word podcast. His work has been published by Bad Betty Press, Broken Sleep Books and Fawn Press amongst many others. His debut full-length collection Biceps is out on Burning Eye Books; his forthcoming collection Metal Gear Sonnets is a sonnet sequence retelling the story of the 1998 PlayStation game Metal Gear Solid.

Jimmy "Popeye" Doyle (Hackman) and his partner, Buddy Russo (Roy Scheider), are New York City police detectives on narcotics detail, trying to track down the source of heroin from Europe into the United States. Suave Alain Charnier (Fernando Rey) is the French drug kingpin who provides a large percentage of New York City's dope, and Pierre Nicoli (Marcel Bozzuffi) is a hired killer and Charnier's right-hand man. Acting on a hunch, Popeye and Buddy start tailing Sal Boca (Tony Lo Bianco) and his wife, Angie (Arlene Faber), who live pretty high for a couple whose corner store brings in about 7,000 dollars a year. It turns out Popeye's suspicions are right -- Sal and Angie are the New York agents for Charnier, who will be smuggling 32 million dollars' worth of heroin into the city in a car shipped over from France. The French Connection broke plenty of new ground for screen thrillers; Popeye Doyle was a highly unusual "hero," an often violent, racist, and mean-spirited cop whose dedication to his job fell just short of dangerous obsession. We have 4 female, 4 male and 4 non-binary slots available for the PRE SIGN-UP – so please let us know where you fall on the gender spectrum when you sign up. Please note we will not offer you a slot until you provide your gender info, so please include this when you get in touch to avoid disappointment. These spaces fill quickly and are strictly first come first served. Poets with a pre-sign up slot do not need to purchase tickets, your name will be on the door at the box office.

If you don’t get a pre-sign up slot, we will be reserving additional female, male and non-binary ON THE NIGHT slots, for those who want to try their luck. Again these ON THE NIGHT slots are strictly first come first served.

The slam is a 3 round slam, so please bring 3 poems just in case. Each poem should be 3 minutes or under.

If you’ve scored a PRE SIGN-UP slot please arrive by 7.15pm to keep your slot, or we will allocate it to the next person on the reserve list. To keep things fair for the other slammers, if you haven’t arrived by the time the slam has started and made yourself known to us, you won’t be able to perform!

No props, no costumes (reading your poem from paper or a phone is fine!) and no hate. Other than that the only thing to remember is that the points are not the point....

The Opening Night party is a chance for everyone to meet, talk about film, and celebrate independent cinema. It’s open to all, whether you work in film or not, or have a film in the festival, it’s an opportunity to have a drink and celebrate and support indie film. There will be a red carpet for photos as well. There is no dress code but there will be a photographer around so be aware and let the photographer know if you don’t wish to be photographed. “FIGHT-TO-THE-FINISH BETWEEN THE SCREEN’S MIGHTIEST TITANS!”

Twin brothers revolt against tyranny in pre-Roman Italy and then come to a parting of the ways as they lead their people toward the founding of a new city.

Cult film night BAR TRASH continues with CELLULOID JAM!, an unofficial celebration of 50 years of THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW (1975).

For this extremely rare public screening of Sergio Corbucci’s DUEL OF THE TITANS aka Romolo e Remo (1968), Token Homo is joined on stage by James Hayes, our beloved/departing BAR TRASH event manager, occasional Rocky Horror, and lifelong beefcake devotee.

THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW makes multiple references to the body building fads that redefined the masculine physique, and its appreciation. Charles Atlas and his ‘Dynamic Tension’ training programme were massively popular throughout the 1930s, ‘40s and ‘50s, whilst Richard O’Brien’s song ‘Sword Of Damocles’ pays homage to the Italian ‘peplum’ sub-genre that flooded American drive-ins with muscular ‘sword-and-sandal’ features (the OG versions of GLADIATOR).

DUEL OF THE TITANS gives us two body builders for the price of one — Steve Reeves and Gordon Scott — in a gloriously entertaining slice of beefed-up cinema that promises a mighty mashup of Hercules (Reeves) vs Tarzan (Scott). Genesis Cinema is the exclusive venue for the interactive film 'Hello Stranger', as an official side event of London Games Festival 2025. The UK premiere screening will be at 7pm on Thursday 10th April with some cast members attending.

This innovation in the cinema experience has thrilled audiences at film festivals in France and the UK. It showcases the convergence of film and video games with the audience participating in how the story unfolds.

Synopsis: Cam conducts his entire life from his electronically automated smart-home. Work, shopping, entertainment and most notably: socialising. Cam interacts with strangers on the platform Hello Stranger: a randomised video chatting application.

Eventually, he encounters a masked stranger with an altered voice. Unnerved, Cam leaves the call only to find the stranger has hacked his smart-home and locked him in. The Stranger tells Cam that he must win three rounds of games or it is ‘game over’. Viewers must make decisions and play the 3 games for Cam to survive but one wrong choice could lead to a grisly end.

The Closing Night party and awards ceremony will be another chance to mingle and celebrate indie film. The event is open to all, whether you work in film or not, or have a film in the festival. I will announce the awards as well, and some of the judges will be in attendance too. There is no dress code, but there will be red carpet photos as well as other photos so be aware and let the photographer know if you don’t wish to be photographed. Come and celebrate!

One such program is the LIFF mini-market with My SMASH Media. This is a speed-pitching session where selected content creators will have the opportunity to pitch to industry professionals such as sales agents, producers, etc, who will offer invaluable advice to the content creators.

Seasonal Affective Cinema is a quarterly film club screening movies that aesthetically and thematically reflect the changing of the seasons. For spring, we're immersing ourselves in the verdant pastures and delicate birdsong of Jane Campion's period romance, Bright Star.

Bright Star follows the unlikely relationship between the Romantic poet John Keats and his muse Fanny Brawne, chronicling their secret love affair from its blossoming beginnings to its bitter end. Campion frames the story through Fanny's eyes, employing her signature meditative pacing and subtly subversive perspective, whilst her vivid portrayal of 18th century Hampstead brings a sensuous whimsy to the measured screenplay.

Seasonal change moves in tandem with John and Fanny's relationship. Their love grows in the warmth of Spring and Summer, but the colder seasons cast a shadow across their romance. As the blissful scenes set amongst flower-filled meadows and fluttering butterflies draw to a close, we're reminded that Spring's euphoria is only ephemeral. But Bright Star encourages us to savour the joyful haze while we can.

Season 9 of weekly cult film night BAR TRASH has been an entirely unofficial celebration of 50 years of THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW (1975).

Token Homo closes CELLULOID JAM! with what was meant to be the sequel to THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW, but somehow the simple idea of resurrecting everyone and going all over again was rejected. Instead, Richard O’Brien’s pre-written songs were re-tooled into an entirely different narrative resulting in a “criminally underrated” (Arrow Films) slice of musical mayhem.

Whilst audiences did get returning cast members O’Brien, Patricia Quinn, Nell Campbell and Charles Gray in eerily familiar roles, SHOCK TREATMENT failed to achieve the midnight circuit adoration of its sexier sibling. However, the story of a right wing world obsessed with reality TV rings scarily true today, and O’Brien’s songs are as strong as ever, making SHOCK TREATMENT the perfect way to bring CELLULOID JAM to a rocking, shocking close.
