BAR TRASH completists will also be delighted to see the return of sleeping bags to our kill count… Unfolding more like an 80s psycho-slasher in the “mould of Jason Vorhees or Michael Myers” (Andrew Graves) than your usual creature feature, the film’s extended slow motion climax was promoted as “the most gruesome blood bath ever filmed” and has to be seen to be disbelieved. “If John Waters had a favourite Bigfoot movie, it would be NIGHT OF THE DEMON.” (AGFA) NIGHT OF THE DEMON was released in the UK on uncensored, pre-certificate videocassette by Iver Film Services (IFS) in 1982 before being effectively banned under Section 1 of the Obscene Publications Act 1959 during the Video Nasties furore. It was re-released with 1 minute and 41 seconds of cuts to obtain an 18 certificate in 1994, and passed fully uncut in 2022.
